Vascular Laboratory Diagnostic Services
Arterial Doppler (Upper and lower extremity)
Includes waveform analysis and segmental pressure measurement. Exercise testing included for patients with ambulatory leg pain who meet lab criteria. Positional maneuvers can be requested for suspect thoracic outlet syndrome.
Indications: claudication, extremity ulcers, foot or hand rest pain, decreased pulses, peripheral vascular disease.
Arterial Duplex Scan (upper or lower extremity)
Includes duplex evaluation of extremity arteries to evaluate stenosis or aneurysm. Discussion of suspected problems with lab technologist or physician prior to scheduling is required. Arterial Doppler exam is usually more appropriate.
Indications: evaluation for pseudoaneurysm after arterial puncture, localization of abnormal arterial segments prior to planned intervention.
Arterial Graft Surveillance
Includes ankle/brachial indices (ABI's), duplex interrogation of entire graft, inflow and outflow vessels.
Indications: follow-up after limb revascularization.
Abdominal Aortic Duplex Scan
Includes duplex scan of abdominal aorta with vessel caliber/diameter as well as Doppler blood flow analysis.
Indications: known or suspected abdominal aortic aneurysm (pulsatile abdominal mass), abdominal bruit.
Carotid Duplex Scan
Includes color flow and spectral Doppler analysis as well as grey scale evaluation of the extracranial carotid system and vertebral arteries.
Indications: CVA, TIA, syncope, bruit, amaurosis fugax, retinal arterial occlusion, Hollenhorst plaque, follow-up of known carotid artery disease, post-operative surveillance.
Mesenteric Artery Duplex Scan
Includes duplex evaluation of the mesenteric arterial circulation, the celiac axis, common hepatic artery, splenic artery, superior and inferior mesenteric arteries and abdominal aorta.
Indications: abdominal angina, abdominal bruit, unexplained weight loss, ischemic colitis, post-prandial pain.
Renal Artery Duplex Scan
Includes measurement of kidney length, duplex evaluation of entire length of renal arteries as permitted by body habitus, parenchymal arterial flow. Requires fasting state. May be limited by body habitus and/or abdominal gas.
Indications: hypertension, small kidney, renal insufficiency, abnormal renal values, follow-up to renal artery bypass or angioplasty.
Venous Duplex Scan (Rule out DVT)
Includes duplex evaluation of the upper and lower extremity veins. Detects the presence and extent of venous thrombosis (deep and/or superficial). May be upper or lower extremity, bilateral or unilateral.
Indications: Limb edema, tenderness and pain, palpable superficial clot, suspected pulmonary embolus.
Venous Reflux Duplex Exam (venous valvular function)
Includes color flow and spectral Doppler analysis as well as grey scale evaluation of the lower extremity veins. Multiple provocative maneuvers and positions are employed to assess venous valvular functions and extent of valvular insufficiency. Perforator vein competence is also assessed.
Indications: varicose veins, venous stasis ulcers, stasis dermatitis, chronic limb edema.
